Instructional Services

The Instructional Services Team supports the work of curriculum development, balanced assessment and instructional improvement in the School District of Onalaska. We work together to support our district professional learning community in achieving its mission: working together to achieve high levels of learning for all. We do this through solution-oriented problem solving on a systems level and an intense focus on student learning. We work to support administrators and educators in their service of students and use a continuous improvement framework. The team focuses on areas including instruction, assessment, curriculum, behavior, and programming that further supports students in their learning.

At Risk Programming

ML (Multilingual Learners) Program

The School District of Onalaska serves approximately 3,000 students with around 150 multilingual learners (ML).

Based on the Home Language Survey, a student may be referred to determine if they have limited English proficiency and require support services. Services will be provided by certified ML staff and delivered in the least restrictive environment depending upon individual student needs. ML staff will work to maintain and to nurture the delicate balance that exists between pride in one's native language and culture and the necessity of acquiring and adjusting to a new language and culture. Interpreting/translation services will be provided to facilitate both verbal and written communication between parents and school staff.

Response to Intervention (RtI)

RtI (Response to Intervention)

RtI uses a multi tier model of screening, interventions, and data driven decision making to improve student achievement. The district uses core curriculum that is research based and instruction is differentiated within the core to meet a broad range of student needs. Universal screening is done to identify student proficiency levels multiple times per year. Teachers analyze data, set goals, and adjust instruction and/or implement interventions as needed. This problem solving approach is ongoing resulting in dynamic changes to the instructional and intervention processes.

2023-24 District Assessment Matrix - This document outlines all of the assessments given in the district throughout the course of the school year. The matrix is carefully monitored to ensure that there is a proper balance of assessment to support instruction and student achievement.
