Curriculum
Mission: Working together to ensure high levels of learning for all.
Vision: A model school district in service of students, staff, and community.
The School District of Onalaska is committed to achieving our vision to become “a model school district in service of students, staff, and community.”
This Continuous School Improvement Process outlines the steps our district will take when new standards are adopted at the state level and/or other curriculum revisions are required. This process is based on guidance from the WI Department of Public Instruction. This includes a state standards adoption process, state timeline for standards review and a phase-by-phase rollout of newly adopted standards. Our process is also deeply rooted in the Professional Learning Community best practices around collaboration and assessment.
Each year, Continuous School Improvement (CSI) Leaders collaborate with content area and grade level teachers to review curriculum, instruction, assessment, and resources. Every 5 years, when the Department of Public Instruction revises academic standards, they, along with instructional services staff, lead a deep dive into curriculum review and development. Sequential curriculum plans that include essential learning outcomes, learning targets, course objectives, content, and methods of student assessment will be developed using academic standards as a guide. Teams will use a standard template to capture their work and for eventual board presentation. Teams can use the following schedule to know on which phase of development they will be working:
- Continuous School Improvement Process - Curriculum Review & Revision
- Connection to the Annual School Strategic Planning Process
- Curriculum Review & Revision Timeline
- Selection of Curriculum and Instructional Resources
