Ben Barton Selected as Superintendent

ONALASKA, Wis. - The Board of Education has announced the selection of Ben Barton as the next superintendent for the School District of Onalaska.

Barton’s appointment was approved during the board’s regularly scheduled meeting on March 10, 2025. His selection comes after an extensive public search process led by the Wisconsin Association of School Boards that included 12 highly qualified candidates. His start date as superintendent in Onalaska is July 1, 2025.

“On behalf of the board, we are excited for this new chapter here in Onalaska,” said board president Ann Garrity. “With Ben’s vast experience, demonstrated success, and enthusiasm for the position and for our community, we are confident our district will continue to excel under his leadership.”

“We are grateful for all the feedback from staff, students, families, and community members. Comments, questions, and observations were heavily relied upon as we reviewed candidates, created interview questions, and ultimately selected our next superintendent,” Garrity continued. “Thank you, Onalaska!”

Barton currently serves as the superintendent of Princeton Public Schools in Minnesota and has been in that position since 2018. He also has experience as the superintendent for Caledonia Area Public Schools and principal at La Crescent Middle School. Barton received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa in physical education, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from St. Mary’s University, and completed his superintendent licensure at St. Cloud State University. He holds a National Superintendent Certification from AASA, The School Superintendents Association.

“The School District of Onalaska is already a top-performing district - that doesn’t happen by accident. It’s a testament to the dedication of our educators, staff, families, and students. I’m eager to fully embrace the ‘Onalaska Way’ while also looking for ways we can keep growing and reaching new heights,” shares Barton. “This is an incredible community, and I can’t wait to work alongside everyone to make a real, lasting impact on our students. Together, we’ll create meaningful learning experiences that challenge, support, and inspire every student.”
